Equestrianism at School
Since the early 90's, there has been a huge surge in popularity and a n increasing number of pupils are now riding in curricular time as well as having the opportunity to take their horse to school with them. Riding has been included as a games option in many schools while GCSE and A level PE have riding options. It is also possible to ride on the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme and many schools are now offering BHS / Pony Club Exams in conjunction with their local governing bodies. Schools have also recognized that riding can play an important role in the physical & emotional development of pupils of all ages and are beginning to realize that to be successful it takes time & commitment as with any other sport. In the early 1990's perceptions began to change about equestrian sport. Where once only Hockey and Netball, Rugby and Football had been acceptable sports within Schools, horses began to feature as part of life and then the curriculum. |
